My special interests are in Computer & Network Security, Computer Communication Networks, Operating Systems and Computer Architecture. I am also very much interested in the Linux Operating System. I think that Linux is the best operating system that the world has had so far. With continuing improvements Linux is likely to remain a leader in the future. If you want learn more about Linux you can visit the Linux Documentation Project Home Page or my Linux Page.
For more than five years (1996-2001) I had been involved in developing a credible computer engineering/science education and computing infrastructure at Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology. I had been heading the Academic Computing Services department as the Systems Manager and I was also an Associate Professor and the Incharge of the Computer Engineering Department. I had deployed Linux, Windows NT and TCP/IP at SSUET. I had implemented Internet services that included desktop Internet access, Domain Name Service, World Wide Web Service and many many more. I had also implemented firewall security for the SSUET Campus Wide Network. I had also implemented Remote Access Service. As you can see my time at SSUET had been very busy and productive. I enjoyed every bit of my time at SSUET. Here is a presentation I had prepared about the Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology.
My profession is teaching. I regularly teach Computer & Network Security, Internetworking and Digital Computer Logic courses at the undergraduate level. I also regularly teach graduate level courses in Computer Security and Computer Networking. Below and within this page you will find the links to the websites of various courses that I have been teaching, the different labs that I have set up and many other projects that I have undertaken over the last several years.
Since September 2001, I have moved on to better and even more enjoyable assignments. I am a Ph. D. candidate at the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST). My area of research is Efficient Hardware Implementations of Elliptic Curve Cryptography and my Advisor is Capt. Dr. Nassar Ikram. Here is a link to a page listing my research publications.
I am fairly active professionally. Here is a partial list of some of the volunteer professional and social activities that I am involved in:
Promotion of Linux and Opensource software technologies in Pakistan
Member of Pakistan Engineering Council. I am frequently invited to be part of visitation teams for accreditation of engineering schools in Pakistan.
